Powertrain
A choice of two different all-aluminum VTEC engine which allows TL 2010 to meet various customers. Standard is a 3.5-liter V-6 produces 280 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque that sends power to the front wheels through Acura's sophisticated Sequential Transmission 5-speed automatic SportShift with steering-wheel paddle shifters mounted. Although powerful, 3.5L engine is also fuel efficient, with EPA rated fuel economy of 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. Engine meets California's tough LEV II carbohydrate certification ULEV emissions standards, thanks to features including Drive-by-Wire throttle system, Computer-Controlled Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) and Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) for intake valves. Serious performance-sedan enthusiasts will choose the TL SH-AWD to make the winding roads their own. Its 3.7-liter V-6 engine produces 305 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque courtesy of high performance features like Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) on both intake and exhaust valves and a special high-flow dual exhaust system. With EPA city / highway fuel economy ratings of 17/25 mpg (TL SH-AWD), 3.7L V-6 also meets California's LEV II ULEV certification carbohydrate emissions. Section de resistance in the TL SH-AWD model is the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system, now available for the first time with 6-speed manual transmission. During spirited cornering, SH-AWD seamlessly distributes more torque to the rear wheels out to create a "yaw moment" to help the TL turn in more quickly and precisely - while also continuously apportioning drivetrain torque front to rear and left to right. The result is a very balanced and precise all-wheel-drive sedan superior performance throughout the year, not just during inclement weather. Transmission standard in 2010 TL and TL SH-AWD is a Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic featuring racing-inspired steering wheel mounted paddle shifters and Grade Logic Control. The big news for 2010 is the availability of 6-speed manual transmission new close-ratio.

Body / Chassis
The TL employs a double-wishbone front suspension and independent multi-link rear suspension independent. The 2010 TL SH-AWD 6MT TL maintain a fully-independent suspension, but exclusive suspension tuning via special coil spring and shock absorber rates for flat cornering with reduced pitching motion under acceleration and braking. The front dampers incorporate 5-percent more compression damping to result in improved turn-in feel. In addition, the front dampers generate 14-percent less high speed compression damping which helps improve ride quality. TL SH-AWD 6MT use a more powerful engine and transmission bushings that better withstand the engine and / or transmission movement during spirited driving. Engine side mount bushing stiffness increases by 80-percent, front mount rate increases by 17-percent, rear hydro mount firmness increases by 50-percent and the transmission upper mount is rigid by a 100-percent. For applications 6-speed manual transmission, special heavy duty front driveshafts are used. In addition to being 2-percent larger diameter, the driveshafts have a larger vessel size spline and the team with more heavy duty CV joints. TL SH-AWD 6-match with a new speed transmission will also benefit from exclusive (EPS) tuning the Electronic Power Steering. Just as with the TL SH-AWD with Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic, EPS provides steering effort low for the company's parking maneuver as increasing speed. With the TL SH-AWD 6MT, EPS system further adjusted to give a little more weight to feel the speed increase resulting in more confident mid experiencing high-speed driving. Structural engineering for the unit-body frame rails TL including relocation within (not below) the vehicle floor pan, resulting in lower body almost flat. Benefits of frame design include improved crash safety, a significant reduction in interior noise levels and reduced aerodynamic drag that helps enhance fuel efficiency. Another important feature is the use of engineering significance of high strength steel, which also increases the unit-body's overall strength while helping to reduce weight. For additional weight savings, aluminum is used for the hood, the front suspension subframe and rear suspension knuckles. Further improving ride quality and road-holding is a dual-stage "blow off" style suspension dampers, bushings hydro-compliant (for transmission and key suspension components) and "smart" engine mount design. On the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) suspension model, more performance minded and brake tuning, larger wheels / tires, racing-inspired front brake cooling channels and special-tuned Electric Power Steering (EPS) take the enthusiast driving experience to a higher level.
